25th Jubilee, 2004
Colwill School Jubilee
12 November - 13 November 2004
On the 12th of November 1979 a new school with an award winning design was opened.
25 years was celebrated with a weekend devoted to memories and good times.
Friday night was a "mix and mingle" with dancing, supper and lots of catching up with classmates and previous teachers who looked just a little older! A historical photo display provided much amusement and a lot of reminiscing.
Saturday was designed as a family day with fun and food for everyone. In addition to an official welcome and presentation there were food stalls, a pasifika performance, a jump jam medley, pet shows and stalls featuring a wide variety of culture food and lots of fun activities to participate in. Two teaches were honoured at this time:
Margaret Mager a foundation staff member who continues to be invaluable in her role as a reading recovery teacher.
Jill Stacey a foundation teacher who was much loved and respected. Jill sadly passed away in September 2003, a memorial garden and seat honour her contribution to the school.
All principals, past and present were in attendance during the weekend festivities; Ian Gray, Terry Hewitson, Jane Boyens, Raewyn Matthys-Morris and Rob Taylor.
Joan Gaskell along with many other past and current Colwill staff worked tirelessly to make this a great event. As a result of all their work many Colwill members went away with new memories and fun memorabilia that included; etched glass tumblers, pens, commemorative penknives, tee shirts and the ever-needed thermo coffee mugs.
