Colwill Kindergarten Overview
At our Kindergarten we place great importance on getting to know children and their families as individuals and celebrate their culture and diversity.
Strong partnerships with parents/whanau form the foundation of every child’s learning. Teachers’ work in collaboration with parent’s to support us in developing a clear understanding of their child.
Our programme is based on children’s current interests with teachers using this as a pathway to further children’s learning. Our environment is set to foster children’s curiosity, creativity, exploration and investigation. The outdoor playground provides a spatial parklike setting inclusive of tranquil garden areas and safe but challenging play equipment. Plenty of shade is available through shade sails and natural tree coverage. An awareness of caring for the environment is fostered through encouraging children to actively participate in our gardening projects.
The kindergarten is situated next door to the local primary school with whom we share a strong relationship. We regularly visit the school library supporting children in the development of early literacy. Weekly opportunities to attend assembly with the junior classes, further supports a smooth transition to school. Interactions with siblings and past kindergarten friends are maintained through our close proximity.
