Keeping Ourselves Safe
This term, all classes at Colwill School will be taking part in an intensive programme run in conjunction with the New Zealand police.
It is called Keeping Ourselves Safe and is about keeping our children safe and happy. This is a personal safety programme which aims to provide children and young people with the skills to cope with situations that might involve abuse.
Keeping Ourselves Safe was developed by police and teachers in consultation with a wide range of community groups.
Our wonderful Police Education Officer, Constable Mike attended a staff meeting to discuss this programme with the teachers. Our staff were fortunate enough to meet District Commissioner Viv Rickard - the man in charge of Waitakere, Rodney and North Shore districts. He came to see the great job the Police Education Officers do, and to be a part of the introduction of the Keeping Ourselves Safe programme to Colwill School.
Constable Mike held a parent meeting after the staff meeting to inform parents about Keeping Ourselves Safe.
Colwill School is looking forward to implementing this programme. Constable Mike will be running lessons alongside your child's class teacher.
Please speak to your child about their learning at school. Our children are our future and it is our job, as teachers and parents, to keep them safe.
