Pastoral Care of International Students

The following is a list of initiatives that we have implemented to support our
International Students at Colwill

  • Regular meetings for parents/designated caregivers

  • Translations of newsletters, reports and notices

  • The employment of an International Student Liaison Officer to support the students, their families and the school

  • The establishment of a Foundation Studies Course that supports the transition of year 4-8 children into regular classrooms

  • Four organised trips, within the Auckland region, per term to help our new students learn about their environment

  • A Buddy programme to support our International students within the school setting

  • Playground angels to help solve playground problems

  • The establishment of a ‘Homework Club’ for our International Students to further support their class programmes and English development
  • Korean books in the Library

  • Regular lunchtime barbecues with the opportunity to invite their Kiwi friends

  • Procedures for tracking leavers who either return home or go to another school
